| Event: | FS-08 Wallace Stevens and Modern Art | Dates: | 11/14, 11/21 | Time: | 10:00 to 12:00 | Category: | Fall2024-Seminar | Location: | Seabury Heritage Hall | Presenter: | Glen MacLeod, PhD, Professor Emeritus English, University of Connecticut | The first session will trace the importance of three great modern artists-- Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse-- to Wallace Stevens's poetry and poetic development. He has deep personal connections to all three, though (except for Duchamp) he didn't know them personally.The second session will trace the influence of Stevens on a number of modern artists, including such well known figures as Robert Motherwell, David Hockney, Joan Mitchell, Grace Hartigan, Fairfield Porter, Claes Oldenburg, and Jasper Johns.
